About Lonsdale Swimming & Sports Trust
Lonsdale Swimming & Sports Trust was set up in 2006 to take on the operation of the ex-University of Derby pool located at Mickleover campus. The campus was sold to a Development Consortium of House Builders in 2006 and a Trust subsidiary has been operating it since August 2007.
The Lonsdale name reflects the origins of the pool as a part of the Bishop Lonsdale Diocesan College, which was absorbed into the Derby College of Technology which then changed into the University of Derby in 1992.
Lonsdale Swimming Pool is used by local clubs, schools, private hirers and the public – it is open every day. We have water polo, scuba diving and disability groups as well as competitive clubs using the pool.
The Trust aims are to provide sporting facilities in the Derby area, particularly swimming so we are pleased to be able to assist Derby City Council with this project.
Gayton Pool is operated with trained lifeguards certificated to National Pool Lifeguard Qualification standards by the Royal Life Saving Society for your safety. The pool Operating Procedures are available on request.
